Welcome to the educational service of Design Museum Denmark

The purpose of the service is to give children and young people a place to experience, understand and evaluate design and craft by sharpening their awareness of form, function, construction, technology, texture, colour and materials. The range of subject areas and product types that the students learn are rich: product design, furniture design, graphic and digital communication, crafts, fashion, web design and innovation.

Interdisciplinarity and design pedagogy
The museum’s education department offers various dialogue-based teaching within subject’s of design, visual arts, Danish, Dutch, Danish and history, which can be combined with a workshop course. A course is based on the museum’s collections, exhibitions and the Design Studio facilities. The Design Studio is an open assortment for children and young people, where they are allowed to touch the exhibited items.

The education department sees design as an interdisciplinary field with roots in humanities, technology, craftsmanship and artistic disciplines – a design concept is complex and is often between several poles such as high culture and popular culture, freedom of artistic design and industry.

Target groups
The courses are organized for high school / HF / adult education / elementary school / design schools and seminars. In addition, there will be ongoing teaching the teachers in specific exhibitions in collaboration with the School Service (Skoletjenesten).

Most of the educational content is in Danish only. For any bookings in English, please direct your inquiry to booking @ designmuseum.dk.
